About Luv A Chin Rescue
Mission & Commitment
Luv A Chin Rescue is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit, 100% volunteer, foster home-based dog rescue. Our mission is driven by the belief that every dog deserves a life of love, care, and security. We are devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of the Japanese Chin breed and their small companion dog “cousins,” ensuring each dog finds a forever home that perfectly matches its specific needs.
When a dog comes into our care, our primary goal is clear: provide immediate medical attention, including spaying or neutering, and then match them with a loving family. For those with special needs—whether due to age, specialized health care, or temperament—our sanctuary FOREVER FOSTER Program is the heart of this commitment, guaranteeing lifelong security and compassion.
Our Focus
We believe every dog deserves a life of love, care and security. This is our single mission when a new dog comes to Luv A Chin Rescue. We are committed to helping vulnerable dogs and puppies from various backgrounds, including owner surrenders, shelter intakes, and former breeding dogs.
Our History: From Dream to Making a Difference
Luv A Chin Rescue was the dream of our founder, Peggy Ellingson, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and became a reality in 2009. Incorporated that same year, the rescue immediately focused on the urgent need to save dogs—especially Japanese Chin dogs being released from commercial kennel breeders at auction.
In our early years, the need was immense; we took in as many as 300 dogs annually. As commercial kennel breeders shifted focus to other breeds due to market demand and the number of available Japanese Chins lessened, Luv A Chin adapted. In 2014, we consolidated our efforts and relocated our headquarters to Redwood Falls, MN. Today, we operate with a dedicated small group of foster volunteers, many of whom have been with Luv A Chin Rescue since its inception, continuing our commitment to every dog who needs us.
